LEGO Disney Castle 71040 Review (Lego 71040)

The Lego Disney Castle is one of the most iconic sets Lego has ever produced. This beautiful structure depicts Cinderella’s castle from the Walt Disney World Resort and is probably the hugest Lego set ever. While Disney lovers will flock to buy this set anyway, here is why every Lego lover should do the same; the set has more than 4000 pieces and when completed the castle stands over 29" high, 18.8" wide and 12" deep. If that doesn’t sway you, nothing will.

The castle is so big it simply cannot be built in one day or even three for that matter. There are three sections to the built; the tower, the main building, and the great hall on the ground floor. Even though the structure is huge Lego didn’t back down on details and the castle is full of iconic decorative elements, innovative building techniques, and some nice little surprises. The main building houses rooms referencing Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and The Princess and the Frog. The building experience on this set is amazing and mimics that of building Lego 10221, Lego 10232, and Lego 10246.

Key Features of LEGO Disney Castle 71040
•    The Disney Castle stands tall and proud boasting a stone bridge, ornate balconies, a clock, a wide arched entrance, and spired towers. In addition, there is a four-story main building and a five-story golden-spired main tower both with rooms depicting different Disney themes
•    The main building floor of the castle features the main hall with a large arched doorway, an ornate chandelier, many suits of armor, a grandfather clock, a magic carpet, and a golden lamp. The second-floor features buildable dark-blue curtains with curtain pole, glass case elements and an ornate buildable candelabra and rose (from Beauty and the Beast).
•    The set comes packed with 5 mini-figs (Mickey and friends) plus 2 frogs and a golden crown element

•    This set is a dream to build. With over 4000 pieces packed in more than thirty packs, simply organizing the pieces takes hours at end. This makes the build both challenging and time consuming
•    The design elements of the set are breath-taking. Disney didn’t compromise on quality when they put this set together and you can see that clearly in some of the little details thrown in like the glass slipper element and fairy-tale book element with printed cover
•    The set has a high playability factor. Kids and adults alike can admire and play with different elements in the castle. The roof tower can be removed easily to allow greater playability
•    The building experience on this set goes beyond that of other similar sets like Lego 10221. Some design elements look strange when being put together but make sense once the whole structure is ready

•    The price point of the set is its biggest con. Even though the product is worth it, this isn’t a set you can buy on a whim
•    It seems a little weird that a Cinderella Castle doesn’t have a Cinderella mini-fig or any Disney princess figure for that matter. You do get a Tinkerbell mini-fig which is awesome

Final Words
While this set may not be easy on the pocket, it is still one of the best Lego sets out there. So if you want a truly amazing building experience and a magnificent finished model go buy LEGO Disney Castle 71040.
